Recognition statistics 2025
In 2024, approximately 79,100 recognition procedures were successfully completed – a 21% increase compared to 2023 (65,300), and more than triple the number recorded in 2016 (26,200). Turkey remains the most common country of origin for recognized qualifications (9,200 successful recognitions), followed by Ukraine with 6,400 cases – marking a clear doubling from the previous year.
The most frequently recognized profession remains nursing, with 32,500 recognitions (41%), followed by medical doctors (11,000; 14%) and engineers (4,400; 5%).
BQ-Portal supports the recognition process
The BQ-Portal, operated by the German Economic Institute (IW) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), provides in-depth information on vocational training systems in 107 countries and details on more than 6,350 foreign professional qualifications.The BQ-Portal helps speed up the evaluation of foreign qualifications and provides practical country and professional profiles to support the responsible authorities in the recognition process.
Expansion of Ukrainian professional profiles
Since 2022, the BQ-Portal has been proactively expanding its content related to Ukrainian vocational qualifications to meet the growing demand for reliable information and formal recognition. Currently, businesses and professional chambers have access to over 300 Professional profiles, each offering detailed insights into training content and standards.
