10 years anniversary of Recognition Act and BQ-Portal: valuable contribution to integration and securing skilled labor

A successful decade of recognition of foreign professional qualifications lies behind us! More than 400,000 applications for recognition and an annual increase in applications until 2019 prove that the Recognition Act has been successful. Procedures as well support structures are well established.

The competent bodies, such as the chambers of skilled crafts, have made a decisive contribution to the success of the Act. The central support tool for the competent bodies and companies is the BQ-Portal - the information portal for foreign professional qualifications, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

The BQ-Portal provides information for the chambers so that they can compare and evaluate all vocational qualifications acquired abroad with German qualifications. Launched by the BMWi and operated by IW Cologne, the portal is Germany's most comprehensive knowledge and work platform on foreign vocational qualifications. It currently offers descriptions of 83 vocational training systems worldwide, including information on all key countries of origin of refugees, and over 2,770 foreign occupational profiles. In this way, the BQ-Portal makes a significant contribution to the transparency, uniformity and efficiency of the decision-making practice of the competent bodies.
