Swiss study: Jobturbo helps Ukrainian refugees enter employment faster

A new study confirms that Germany’s Jobturbo initiative is helping refugees—especially from Ukraine—enter the labor market more quickly. Targeted support and more frequent counseling sessions are making a difference. The BQ-Portal is also accelerating the integration process by providing detailed, accessible information on Ukrainian vocational qualifications and supporting the recognition of professional skills.

More than 70 percent of the recognition procedures for foreign professional qualifications obtained in EU member states end with a full equivalence. The positive recognition rate for the Netherlands is the highest as it reaches 94 percent. It is followed by Austria, Latvia, Hungary, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.

Most applications in 2024 come from Turkey, followed by Tunisia and India. Hungary has the highest positive recognition rate in 2024 at 95 per cent, followed by Portugal and Libya at 93 per cent each. Sri Lanka and Azerbaijan also have positive recognition rates of over 90 per cent.

The majority of recognition notifications is granted to the applicants from Romania. The majority of the recognition notifications are issued for the regulated professions, especially general care nurse and doctor. There are much fewer notifications issued for the non-regulated professions such as office clerks and electrical systems technician.

Recognition by country 2022

As in 2021, the highest number of applications came from Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by the Philippines, Serbia, and Syria. The Netherlands has the highest positive recognition rate in 2022 with at 94 percent, closely followed by Latvia, as well as Hungary, Switzerland, Lithuania, Austria and the Czech Republic, which also have positive recognition rates of over 90 percent.
