The recognition grant extended, scope broadened

On 1 October 2019 a new funding directive for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications comes into force. It expands the funding opportunities. In future, it will also be possible to get funding for certificate evaluations from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is thus responding to the frequent demand for the evaluation of certificates for academic degrees in the non-regulated area. Potential employers, for example, attach great importance to comparability with local degrees in the case of managers and engineers who can be employed by companies even without recognition.

In its trial phase since December 2016, the federal government's recognition grant has proven its worth as a funding instrument. More than 6,200 applications have been submitted to date. Two thirds of the applicants are employed, almost half come from the dual system.

The subsidy rate remains unchanged at 600 euros. Updated application forms will soon be available on the information page on the recognition grant.
