"Recognition in Germany" is now on Facebook

Since February 2018 the project „Recognition in Germany“ is also on Facebook. Apart from information on recognition of professional qualifications their Facebook webpage offers in particular a platform for dialogue and exchange. Via the new Facebook website “Recognition in Germany” gives people interested in recognition practical pointers and suggestions for further information and counselling services. Furthermore, advisory experts as well as other stakeholders are invited to network via the new Facebook website and keep up with the news on professional recognition. “Recognition in Germany” looks forward to your comments, shared dialogs and your likes.

New recognition statistics now in the BQ-Portal

The Federal Statistical Office published the statistics on the Recognition Act for the reference year 2016 this autumn. In 2016, 19.800 applications for recognition of foreign professional qualifications were processed. The share of those who received a positive ruling is very high. 30,2 percent of applicants have received the partial recognition or have to complete a formalized additional training in order to be able to work in their profession. In 66,4 percent of cases, full recognition was granted. The BQ-Portal took a closer look at this high success rate: The section Recognition Statistics 2016 provides an overview of the success rates of applications for professional recognition by professional groups, professions, regions and countries. The rate of full equivalence by individual occupation and country could be of particular interest.

2017 Report on the Recognition Act now available in English

The 2017 report marks the fifth anniversary of the law and reveals that success has been achieved right across the board. Efficient administrative struc­tures, comprehensive information and guidance provision have been established over the past five years. The number of recognition applications is continuing to rise. Three quarters of all recognition notices certified full equivalence between foreign and German qualifications. The results of the external evaluation confirm that professional or occupational recognition is improving people’s life circumstances. Recognition is working!

New Recognition Statistics: Syria is on the 4th Place

On September 14, The Federal Statistical Office published the statistics on the Recognition Act for the reference year 2016. Since the Act came into effect in 2012, 86,514 applications for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications were filed, the Federal Statistical Office reports. In 2016, 23,028 new applications were submitted. This is a 14 percent increase over the previous year. The share of those who received a positive ruling is very high. The made up 76,5 percent of all applicants in 2016. In 66,4 percent of cases (19,845 cases), full recognition was granted and in 10,1 percent the partial one.  Only in 3,4 percent of cases, no equivalence could be established between a credential obtained abroad and a corresponding German qualification. Most applicants completed their training in Romania, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Syria. Applications for recognition of a Syrian vocational training almost tripled in a year (Syria, 2015: 636 new applications; 2016: 1728). Thus, Syria is on the 4th place among the most popular countries in the recognition process.

The EU SME Envoys Network calls for the creation of the European BQ-Portal in its new programme

Taking up a German initiative, the EU SME Envoys Network has drawn up the new European Action Programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It contains over 100 recommendations for action by the EU and the Member States. These range from support for the building of broadband infrastructure to boosting the spirit of entrepreneurship in schools. Further to this, the European SME Action Programme includes a total of around 50 model examples of good practice in various countries. One of these model examples in the field of mobility and cross-border training is the BQ-Portal. The EU SME Network calls for establishing an EU-wide electronic qualifications platform to support the exchange of information with the BQ-Portal as a model.

New overview: the right information on recognition with just one click

Since the Recognition Acts entered in force, the federal government and the federal states established an extensive range of information structures aimed to support their implementation. The three information portals for recognition of foreign professional qualifications, “BQ-Portal”, “Recognition in Germany” and “anabin”, are central in this context. Their close cooperation ensures high quality content and consistency. The portals have jointly created a new overview demonstrating which services for which target groups are available in the area of professional recognition.

Recruiting qualified professionals from abroad: new information for companies on “Make it in Germany”

From now on, “Make it in Germany” provides information on the regulations applying to qualified migrants for entering and working in Germany that businesses need to take into account – and how companies can support their new recruits, for example in obtaining a visa. Furthermore, companies can find out here how to create and foster a culture of diversity, thereby ensuring that all their employees have the chance to do their bit and are valued. Companies can also download guidelines on all issues related to recruiting and integrating international qualified professionals. Besides, you can view on “Make it in Germany” successful stories about recruiting qualified professionals from abroad. Application open: The Company Award "We for Recognition"

The Company Award “We for Recognition” will be launched for the first time this year. The award ceremony will take place in Berlin on June 21, 2017 in the context of the conference “5 years with the Recognition Act – once learned, never forgotten”. Federal minister for Education and Research, Johanna Wanka, as well as Presidents of the German Federation of Chambers of Commerce (DIHK) and the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH), Eric Schwitzer and Hans Peter Wollenseifer will be present at the conference. Applications can be submitted online between March 1 and April 31, 2017 at www.annerkenungspreis.de.

In most of the cases, full or partial equivalence could be established. First European Vocational Skills Week from 5 to 9 December 2016

Under the motto “Discover your talent”, the European Commission encourages stakeholders from all over Europe to organise events on a local, regional or national level. The aim of this action week is to demonstrate the positive aspects of VET (Vocational education and training) and to showcase concrete examples of excellency and quality. Everybody – trainees, vocational schools or companies etc. – is very welcome to activley join the first European Vocational Skills Week.
